Biography
Born in Reading in 1999, Gianluca showed an interest in the arts from an early age. Whether it be crafting ambitious, inhabitable structures out of cardboard or drawing illustrations and designing his own comic books, there was always a desire to create. This intention has never faltered, and the challenge of designing from a blank canvas is a ceaseless motivation for his practice. The only rule for his work: "where possible, make by hand".
Gianluca's work spans multiple media and contexts. Academically, he is trained in Architecture at the Master's level, which he is currently pursuing at Università Iuav di Venezia. Before this, he completed a four-year MA in Architecture at Edinburgh University as well as an Art Foundation at Oxford Brookes. The architecture degree encompasses numerous skill sets, including graphical representation and model-making. Throughout his time at Iuav, he has developed a particular affinity for model-making, entirely by hand. Alongside this, he has managed to incorporate his hand-drawing at a much higher level, often crossing disciplines throughout the course.
Outside of the University, Gianluca's expertise has always been in hand-drawing, specifically tonal drawings with pencil. This is a skill he has developed over many years, and he has completed more than 50 commissions professionally. Additionally, he has acquired a graphic design style that blends his hand-drawing abilities with computer-drawing. This has allowed him to produce drawings, logos, murals, posters and more for companies across the Reading area.
